Standing Rock and the continual violation of Tribal Sovereignty by the U.S. Government.

This is the home page for my research project for my Introduction to American Studies class. I will be analyzing the protests at Standing Rock over the Dakota Access Pipeline as a case study on the relations between Native American Nations, specifically the Sioux, and the U.S Government.

My main argument is that the U.S Government has continually violated the sovereignty of native nations in pursuit of profits. The US Government set up a legal system to disenfranchise these native nations so that it could ignore native rights in pursuit of its own agenda, even when this could have potentially disastrous consequences on the native communities.
